Epic canvases dance around richly-textured rooms of rough plaster, Moroccan tiles, hand-woven rugs, and reclaimed lumber. Hand-carved 10’ Italian fireplaces and lush red velvet
curtains frame otherworldly objects designed by Julian Schnabel. A custom Venetian glass chandelier hangs above surreal lanterns. It is a study in careful contradictions - jazzy but purposeful - an emotional and synergistic balancing act between Mr. Schnabel’s maximalist hand and Mr. Schrager’s minimalist choreography of style that always dances up to the edge of being too much without ever going over.

"This is a one-of-a-kind thing," says Schrager, "It’s a complete left turn for me and different than anything we have ever done before, and I expect it will wind up being a prototype for the hotel industry the same way my first hotel was 25 years ago."
